Halloween, Pumpkins, and Savannah

It's no secret that Halloween is my least favorite holiday of the year, but it sure was fun to dress Abby up like Little Red Riding Hood (Garrett's idea). She's had a couple opportunities to wear it already - first, at a nursing home for a service project with the Medical Spouse Association, and then at the Ward Trunk or Treat. I'll probably dress her up tonight and drop by our neighbor's house, too, so they can see her.

We also got to spend last weekend in Savannah at Garrett's parents' house. It's so nice to have family nearby so we can get away for the weekend!

We found a great Mexican place in Savannah that tasted SO authentic - we can't wait to go back! I'm thinking Thanksgiving AND Christmas break. I thought the salsa was pretty spicy (my favorite), and Abby loved it!!

Rainy Day

I love boring rainy days. I love cuddling up in blankets and watching movies, listening to the rain, and feeling cozy in my house. A couple weeks ago, we had a cold and rainy day, so Abby and I spent the day making cookies, homemade chicken noodle soup, and homemade bread bowls.

(Speaking of rainy days... for the longest time, I used to think that saving your money "for a rainy day" meant saving it for something fun to do when you were bored. Haha)

Air Show!

Last weekend we went with some friends to the Air Show that was in town. The weather was pretty chilly (compared to the 88 degrees it had been 2 days before!) but we had a great time. Abby really loved all the loud planes whizzing above and around us.

"WOW!!" she was saying.

It was so much fun and we can't wait to go again next year!

Pumpkin Patch!

I LOVE Autumn! I love the changing of the leaves, the crisp cool air, pumpkins, hot chocolate, etc. Sadly, we haven't been able to experience much of any of it yet this year (yesterday it was 88 degrees out), but I'm looking forward to cooler weather soon.

Thankfully, we did finally have a cooler day last Saturday, so we took that opportunity to visit a pumpkin patch with some friends from medical school.

We had a great time! Everything seems to be so much more fun with a kid - especially a toddler who can enjoy experiences. Garrett and I had fun taking pictures of her as she discovered the pumpkins and chose one to take home.

On a sad note - Molly and Mike are BOTH in hospitals today (in UT and NH) - they've had kidney stones for DAYS! I hope you both get better soon!

New design

Last night I mentioned to Garrett that I'd love our blog to have a fresh new look, and today when he got home from work (early!) he sat down at the computer and got to work (under my direction, of course). Doesn't it look great? Who knew my husband was so talented!

I also mentioned that Abbie and I were considering doing some re-designs on our food storage blog, and he got to work on that, too. It's still in the works, but it will be great!

No animals were hurt in the writing of this post

Right now Garrett and I are watching "Red, Hot, & Green", an HGTV show about redesigning your home in eco-friendly ways - you know, making it "green" and stuff.

Well, they were just re-doing the shower in a bathroom, where they tore out some tiles and and replaced them with completely recycled, eco-friendly glass. Oooh, recycled glass, that's great (seriously). But... what does that even mean, eco-friendly? It's not going to emit toxic gas like the old tiles did (not)? I understand why "going green" can be cool, and I understand the importance of using recycled products etc., but it just seems kind of pointless to spend a lot of money (that most people probably don't have) to do these things, PLUS they are tearing out all their old fixtures and where does that stuff go?? Right now they are talking about how cool it is that they are using recycled materials for the new countertop, but where's the old countertop? Right, it went to the landfull. That seems a little backwards to me... am I missing something?
