Today's the day...

I still get goosebumps when I see this final play of the game (below). 2006 season, BYU at Utah, and Utah is winning 31-27. Just 3 seconds left.

Of course, I wasn't a BYU student when this game was played. Notice how at the end of the clip, the announcer says, "Not 5 in a row for Utah"? That's because they had won 4 in a row against BYU. The 4 years I was there. I'm not even going to pretend that I'm not bitter about that. I did see this game live, though, and it was a lot of fun. Definitely lost my voice from screaming so much.

Anyway, today's the big game (1:30 MST... hopefully we'll find it online somewhere!). Utah has had a good season (it started much better than it has ended up) and BYU has had a pretty rough one, so I'm interested to see how it will turn out. I think that previous games should be thrown out the window when trying to guess how these teams will play today. It's such a huge rivalry and emotions run so high, you just never know what will happen. I'm excited.

08.08.08 - Go USA!

For the opening ceremony of the Olympics we made a cake and ate Chinese food to celebrate (I know, I messed up the rings - the bottom ones shouldn't overlap).

Garrett and I have LOVED watching the Olympics so far. Like most people, we've loved seeing Michael Phelps go for the gold 8 times. So exciting! I can't believe he actually did it. During the final race I was so nervous I couldn't sit down! I was pacing like crazy during the first 3 swimmers of the relay, and by the time the fourth swimmer dove in I was running in circles around the room. Literally. It was pretty intense.

I have really enjoyed watching gymnastics and diving as well, but I have a hard time watching the sports that are judged. It all seems so subjective, and I usually don't understand the scoring at all. Especially for gymnastics - and don't even get me started about that little 14-year-old Chinese girl. I just wonder how long it will be until someone breaks down and just admits the truth (the girl herself? family? friends? the government worker who gave her the passport?). Anyway....

All in all, though, the Olympics have been wonderful and I will be sad when they're over. I will, however, get much more sleep. I'm up every night until at least 12:30 now, watching all the live coverage I can. Poor Garrett goes to bed early and misses most of it, because he has to be at the hospital around 5:30 or 6 in the mornings, but I usually give him a good recap.

Opening Day!!

Baseball season has officially begun! I LOVE baseball. I love everything about it. And I love my Red Sox! Finally, a team I can count on! With the Red Sox I'm not nervous at the beginning of every game, and they usually don't let me down (*cough BYU cough*).

Today in our season opener in Japan, the Red Sox beat the A's 6-5 in an exciting 10-inning game. Hopefully that is just a preview of all the excitement that awaits us this season! I really hope Garrett and I will be able to make it to a baseball game this year. Unfortunately, the Red Sox aren't playing near us at all this year, but maybe we'll be able to go to a Braves game or something. They're ok, too.

And.... it's over.

Well, BYU's basketball season is over. We didn't play our best game, and we lost by a handful of points. Oh well... there's always next year. Now I guess I just won't be spending so much time watching basketball this coming week, which is a good thing I guess. But I really thought we had a good chance this year, at least to make it to the second round!! Oh well... story of my life as a BYU Cougar fan (all my years at BYU, we never beat the U in football, we won 1 home basketball game, and we just stunk all around). My biggest dream as a student was to rush the field at the end of a football game. Lame, I know. But I never got to do it. At our last home football game, senior year, we were playing the U, and it went into double overtime. Garrett and I were sitting in the second row of the endzone, so by the second overtime we were literally hanging over the railing, reading to storm the field. Needless to say, we went home sad.

Anyway, that's my rant. BYU really turned around and started winning after I graduated and left (in football, anyway. But basketball's improved a lot, too)

Let the Games Begin!

I love March Madness! I completed my bracket on Sunday night, almost as soon as the teams were announced (clearly, I don't put much thought into it. I just think it's fun). I have BYU winning 3 games (yes, three... I'm very optimistic this year). Ultimately I have Duke winning the championship. I really don't know why I chose them... they're a number 2 seed this year, but I think I heard somewhere that their coach has the most wins in postseason play.

The BYU Cougars play Texas A&M tonight at 7:25. Don't miss it!
