Halloween weekend in Savannah

If it seems like we are going to Savannah a lot.... it's because we are!  We're there every third weekend, it seems, but I love it.  At just over 3 hours away, it's not too far to travel for a weekend, and it's just far enough away that it's not too close, either.

This time, we were only there for one night.  Garrett had to work until around 10pm Friday night, so we opted to just leave early Saturday morning rather than getting there too late at night.  It was just as well, since Abby was in the hospital Weds-Thurs (more on that later), and we just had so much going on last week.

The reason for this week's trip: two Halloween parties and a baptism.  I'll admit, I didn't expect to enjoy the Halloween parties too much, but they ended up being a lot of fun (well, the adult party was anyway).

We got there on Saturday just in time for the first Halloween party, which was actually just a Halloween-themed birthday party for Garrett's little brother Rylan.  Spending a couple hours with a handful of 8-year-old boys is not exactly my idea of a good time but my mother-in-law pulled off a fantastic party, complete with Halloween-themed food, a balloon stomp, a treasure hunt, digging graves in the backyard (little "treasures" buried in their garden area), and a pinata.  The kids all wore their Halloween costumes and everyone had a good time, I think.

Once Rylan's party was over, it was time to focus on the adult Halloween party that my in-laws were throwing that night.  Most of the preparations were done earlier in the week but there were still a lot of last-minute things to be done.

The adult party turned out to be a lot of fun!  There was a good turnout of people from Church, and there was a lot of really good food.  We played some fun group games and I think everyone had a great time.

Bleeding eyeballs, cupcakes:

Rylan's birthday cake:

Abby was Rapunzel from "Tangled".  Yes, I made the dress!  Hopefully we'll get some more pictures tonight to show later.

A familiar scene all week... Ellie stealing food and treats.

Fruit kabobs:

Some of the decor.  There were also black rats cut from construction paper, which were on the wall going up the stairs.  For a while, Ellie was too scared to climb the stairs by herself!  The decorations overall were really good... my mother-in-law has as many Halloween decorations as she does Christmas!  And she has a lot of Christmas....

Garrett's parents:

 Kate & Garrett:
 Brenna & Jesse:

Jared & Jackie (again):

Garrett was Maverick from Top Gun... he spent some of the night with "Highway to the Danger Zone" playing loudly on his phone, in his pocket.  I dressed up in a Spanish dress.

And, Sunday was the main event.  Sunday was Rylan's actual birthday, so it was pretty special that he got to be baptized on his 8th birthday (I was also baptized on my birthday, it was a tradition in my family growing up to do it on the actual birthday).

 The whole gang, again:

In our Church, we do not baptize infants; rather, we wait until children reach the "age of accountability", which we believe is age 8.  Sometimes it's hard to believe Rylan is already 8!  It's crazy (and exciting) to think that Abby is just a few years away from her own baptism.  Time flies!

We'll be back in Savannah in..... three weeks and counting!
