Losing LOST

This blog post is dedicated to LOST. If you don't like the show or you have never seen it, this entire post will mean nothing to you.

So, I'm going through withdrawals now that it's over for the season. Can you believe it's not coming back until JANUARY??? I don't know if I can last that long. I kind of wish I had waited to watch this show until it was all done, and then I could have just watched the entire show in one sitting. Well, I would have to get up for food, and sleep once in a while, but it could be done. In fact, that is what I did for the first 2 seasons (well, not exactly that, but it was close). Garrett and I were introduced to LOST when Mike bought the first season on DVD on a whim, and we borrowed it from him and we were hooked. We watched it with Emma and John and we would watch like 3 or 4 episodes at a time. And I remember being so glad that we had waited for the DVDs and we didn't have to wait a week between each cliffhanging episode! So that was fun. But this season has been rough. It's been my first season to watch it "Live", and I must say that it's hard to wait each week. But it's fun to be on the same page as everyone else in the world.

So... that twist at the end where the flashback was actually a flash forward was SO cool! I am glad to know that they get off the island. Well, at least Kate and Jack do. Who knows who else does. Maybe they made a deal? Maybe that's why Jack is so depressed, because he feels guilty? And why are Kate and Jack not together?? And can they change the future? Because it makes me sad that Jack's life is so crummy once he leaves the island. Kinda makes me hope he doesn't leave it, now. The creators of lost have said that the show will end in 2010, so there are 3 more seasons. But at the end of this season, they were in contact with someone who was supposedly coming to rescue them. Will they really leave the island, or will some of them leave? I do hope that we will see some more of their lives post-island. I would like to see their homecomings and how they try to get back to normal life. I'm sure they won't have them leaving the island yet, but I do hope they will do it eventually and let us see all that. Or at least show it in some more flash-forwards. And who was in the casket?? Online I saw a close-up of that newspaper article that Jack had, and it looked like the person is a man, and from New York, and the named started with J. John Locke? James Sawyer? Hmm... a mystery. One that I was not happy with.

And Charlie. I will miss him! I have liked him since the beginning and I am very sad to see him go. I was really hoping Desmond would die instead, just because I like Charlie more, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Too bad for Evangeline Lilly (the actress who plays Kate). She and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie) are dating in real life. Oh, and I am getting sick of Locke. I was kinda hoping he was dead. He's been getting on my nerves this season. But I'm really happy that so many of the Others are now gone.

Splish Splash!

We are having a great time in Savannah so far, and we are staying very busy! Mom and Dad Woodbury are in the middle of several home improvement projects that Garrett and I have been helping with. I have been busy priming and painting wood for a new fence, and Garrett has been taking apart the deck so they can put a new one down. It's been hot and humid, but we're surviving. Unfortunately, I can only paint when Abby is down for a nap, which is usually anywhere from noon to 4, the hottest part of the day, but that's ok. We just want to get it all done before the heat gets unbearable.

We took Abby in the pool today and she really seemed to like it! She was so cute with her little hat. Garrett's mom bought her some sunglasses too but we can't find them anywhere! We'll have to take some pictures with those once we find them.

So summer has kicked off and we're staying busy and having fun.

Summer begins!

I can't believe Melinda got voted off American Idol! I knew I should have voted. I really wanted it to come between her and Blake in the final, and then I wanted her to win. I'm not really a fan of Jordan... but whatever. And, speaking of TV shows, LOST is being absolutely crazy. I can't wait until the season finale next week. I hear there are some deaths, and *SPOILER ALERT* I also hear that certain people we may think are dead really aren't (which I'm not too excited about, but whatev).

We have been busy since Garrett finished school on Monday. Yes, we have been sleeping in, which has been great, but we've also been getting a lot done once we get up! Yesterday we took a trip to Lowe's and bought some shelves for Abby's room to put her stuffed animals in. They used to be at the bottom of her crib but she just started scooting all around in it, so we wanted to get them out of the way. We also got some fertilizer and grass seed for some bare spots in the front yard. Then we had a BBQ with some friends for dinner, which was fun! Then today we spent a few hours in the front lawn. The previous owners of the house cut down a big tree in front but they left the stump and the grass all around it is dead. The stump is also pretty dried out and dead, so Garrett chopped a lot of it out with a pick-axe. It was so hot out but we survived... hopefully Garrett's back won't give him too much trouble tomorrow. And then tomorrow we plan to repaint the office and get our passports, which alone could take the entire day. That'll cost a nice $300 because we have to get them expidited... but hey, it means we're going to Mexico, right?

My apologies...

Wow, so I am really bad about this whole blogging thing! I promise I will be better in the future. At least 2 a week, how does that sound? And hopefully that will be my minimum.

So yeah, after reading Emma's blog you can see that we had a GREAT time while I was out in Utah. It was so fun to see everyone and spend time with the fam! And it was especially exciting for Mom and Dad to spend time with the babies. Dad calls me now and asks how Abby is doing, so that's fun. They are so excited to see her again! Anyway, Utah was busy and awesome. I had all-you-can-eat sushi, watched Grey's Anatomy, hung out with family and friends, went to graduation, played with Franklin, got my hair highlighted, played with Christopher, annoyed John, went shopping, etc... all the things I had planned on doing! Thank goodness Abby is such a good little traveler. And what made it even nicer is that on my flight from SLC to Atlanta, I got to sit next to an empty seat, so Abby was in her carseat the whole flight! That was so relaxing, and she slept most of the time. So, it was very nice to be out there and have a little vacation. Although, if anyone in this house needs a vacation it's Garrett. But don't worry! His LAST test is tomorrow (Monday) and then he is DONE FOR THE SUMMER!!! And boy do we have plans for the summer...

This week we will be busy getting stuff done around the house and yard. We want to put some lattice down around the bottom of our deck (so you can't see underneath it), take out the massive stump in the backyard, get rid of the dilapidated swing set left by the previous owners (I had thought to keep it, but upon further inspection declaired it un-playable and unsafe), get a new mailbox (our mailman says ours is too low), mulch around some trees, perhaps, and I'm sure we'll find some other things to do. We also have to get our GA drivers licenses (we were supposed to do that within 30 days of moving here, oops). So yeah, we hope to do all that this week before we head to Savannah this weekend. Garrett is going to be working for his dad again this summer, when he can. As time goes on the summer keeps getting more and more packed with plans, so I'm not really sure how much working will actually go on. Oh, and we were also going to go to the aquarium in Atlanta this week... we've both been wanting to go and it's the biggest aquarium in the world! But then I was looking online and it costs $25 a person! So, we're going to save that trip for another time. Sometime this summer I want to go to a Braves game (ideally we'd go when they play the Red Sox, but that's the same week we will be at Tybee Island).

Oh and another thing I have to do ASAP is get some passports for Abby and myself because we are going to Mexico in July! It's going to be a girls' vacation (Garrett's mom and sisters and me) while the hubbies are out in southern UT on their annual dirtbike trip. I am excited! I've only ever left the country once before, to go to Canada, and it was fun but not all that exciting. All of a sudden Garrett's mom seems to be on this kick about going on family vacations and exotic trips. It's kind of funny that she wants to do it now, now that we have a baby and traveling is just such a hassle. But hey, I'm not about to complain. And in all honesty, Abby is just so fun and she's such a good baby that I'm not worried about it at all. We're going to Mazatlan... it's on the western coast of Mexico and we'll be staying at a resort there.

Also in July we are hopefully going up to Pennsylvania for a short week, and up to Palmyra to see the pageant and see my grandparents (my Grandpa is the president of the Palmyra Temple). I am SO excited for this trip, too! I LOVE Palmyra and I love my parents' place in PA, so it should be a great trip. I am excited to have Garrett visit Palmyra; he's never been there before. Although, I know he would enjoy the trip MUCH more if John was going to be there, Emma.... see what you can do!

Well, it's Mother's Day and it was been very relaxing. At church I got a little pot of marygolds, which was nice (but to be honest, I think marygolds smell like garbage). Abby was kind of fussy when we got home from Church but I put her down for a nap around 2:30 and she just woke up at 6:45... yeah, she loves to sleep. So it was a nice afternoon of reading and just hanging out with Garrett, who is studying for his last test. So... that's pretty much it right now. It's gotten really hot here but we haven't turned on the A/C yet... we're holding out until it's impossible. It's a game we like to play. A poor person's game, actually. Gotta love it! :)

Woot

The above pictures are from our spring break. Abby loved that black chair at Garrett's parents house. The third picture is Garrett and his friend Mark at the beach in Hilton Head. Some people sitting near us were building a huge pyramid with steps and everything, it was really cool looking. So, Mark and Garrett wanted to make something cooler. As you can see... they didn't. Oh, and while we were in Hilton Head I saw my first ever alligator! And it was alive! Mark and his wife Abby rented a condo for the week, and there was a little tiny pond right outside their building, that's where the alligator lived! There wasn't a fence or anything! And it started swimming over towards us and we were standing on the edge of the water!! I was so scared and Garrett made fun of me. I mean, it was just a little one, but still. A real live alligator! (see the pic below. It may not look threatening, but trust me, it was).



But first off, a big congratulations to Mike and Shauna!! They are expecting! Woot woot! We are so excited for them. It's so fun to see our family expanding and adding to the mix of cousins. I hope Abby will be able to be close with all her cousins, especially the ones near her age. This will be so fun!

The rest of our spring break went really well. We spent a few more days in Savannah just hanging out with Garrett's parents and his little 3-year-old brother Rylan. Garrett seems to think it's his duty to make sure Rylan experiences the whole "sibling" thing (the next youngest kid is 19, so Rylan is in some ways an only child), so Garrett makes sure to tease him and give him a hard time like any big brother would do (well, any 6-year-old or so :) ). It's kind of funny to see them play together; they are really cute. It's especially fun to see Rylan interact with Abby and talk sweetly to her. I love watching little kids with babies... they act all grown up and try to be mature like the adults, copying what we do and say to the baby. It's cute. Rylan comes up to Abby and says in a sweet high pitched voice, "Hi Sugar!! This is Uncle Rylan!"

Oh, and another funny thing that happened over break was with our friends Rob and Haley, who came to Savannah for a few days to visit us. We were talking and it turned out that Rob was born in the same hospital that Emma and I were, and that his family lived on the Air Force base in Omaha at the same time we did! They're LDS, so I figured my parents must have known his family, and sure enough, they did! My mom was all excited when I told her, and she said that she has a picture somewhere of Rob and Mike together! It's funny because Garrett and I are really good friends with Rob and Haley, but we've never made that connection until now. And, at the beginning of the school year when we first met them, it turned out that Garrett and Haley knew each other from a few years back. What a small world! We all graduated from BYU but they left Provo around the time Garrett and I got married, and we never met out there.

Hmm, what else? Our washing machine needs to be fixed. Luckily when we got it fixed a few months ago we bought a 1 year warranty, so it will be free to fix it. What a hassle, especially since there's a load of clothes sitting in there that we can't take out! It's a front loader so if we open it tons of water will come spilling out. Hopefully the Sears people can come tomorrow.

We're still not positive about our summer plans, but it looks as if Garrett will work for his Dad again, so we'll probably go down to Savannah during the week and then come back here on the weekends to take care of the house and for our Church callings (I'm in YW, he's in YM). He worked in his Dad's office last summer too (his Dad's a doctor) and that was good experience. It'll be annoying having to drive back and forth, but it'll be worth it because it will pay well, and plus he'll be able to take off all the time he needs, like for Scout camp and for the week at the beach (his parents are renting a beach house for a week in June!). So, we're excited for the summer. It's his last real "summer" too, because next year he has the boards in May (standardized testing, about 10x worse than the MCAT, in my opinion) and then he starts rotations in the hospital in June or July. So... yeah, life is moving fast. I cannot believe Garrett's first year of medical school is almost over. I can't believe he'll be a doctor in 3 years!! So exciting... then he can write prescriptions for you all, haha. He's still not sure what kind of doctor he wants to be, but usually around the 3rd year is when people decide. The rotations in the hospital help decide that. He does know, however, that he does NOT want to be an OB/GYN or work in pediatrics. I would like him to do dermatology or radiology, but those are very competetive fields, so we'll see. Garrett's uncle is a dermatologist in Reno and he works 3-4 days a week, and doesn't even own a pager. AND, Garrett just found out in his lecture yesterday that the specialty his uncle is in is the highest paid specialty in the entire medical field. Woot. I wouldn't mind that. BUT, his uncle had years and years upon years of training. Nothing comes easy.

Well, that's all I have to say for now. Emma, make sure you talk to John about my investment idea, and get back to me! (for all you who don't know what it is, it's basically that John invests some of his money in my name, and gives me the profits. And I'll give him like 10%). Yeah, I'm a genius.

Spring Break!

Spring break has been great so far! It's so nice to spend so much time with Garrett and have him not be stressed out and thinking about school 24/7. We are spending spring break in Savannah at Garrett's parents' house, which has been lots of fun. On Monday we went to Hilton Head SC to spend the day with some friends who got a condo for the week. The beach was great and the weather was absolutely perfect - a great breeze and the water was so warm! I did get pretty sunburnt, though, and that has been painful.

On Tuesday some friends of ours from school came down to Savannah to spend a few days with us. We went downtown to River Street on Tues night and walked around the shops and things. Abby was so good in her stroller and she really seemed to like the cobblestone sidewalk - she was bouncing around like crazy! But since the weather was so nice, there were gnats everywhere and every time I slapped them off my arms, my sunburn stung so badly!

Then today (Wednesday) we went to Tybee Island to the beach again, and although I put sunscreen on I forgot to get my face, so I have a REALLY bad sunburn around where my sunglasses where, especially on my nose. It's so painful! I'm going to have to send Garrett to the store to get me some Aloe. And some stuff for smores, yum.

Well, as you can see in the picture Abby loved the beach. She has been so good this whole trip! Oh, and as a matter of fact, she has now slept through the night twice in a row! On Monday night and last night I put her down around 11 pm, and she didn't wake up until 8 the next morning!! I really didn't mind getting up once a night like I have been for the last few weeks, but this really is nice too and I'm so glad she is such a good sleeper. She really is such a sweet baby.
