OBX

We went camping at the Outer Banks a few weekends ago.  It was cool and rainy by the time we got there on Friday afternoon, but thankfully the rain stopped long enough for us to set up the tents and for Rob and Garrett to get a little fishing in.

Abby really likes camping and sleeping in a tent.  Unfortunately, it was so windy all night that we didn't get much sleep.  Imagine having about 6 people standing around the outside of your tent and shaking it as hard as they can, all at the same time.  That was pretty much how it was for us, all night long.  Finally around 12:30 I took Ellie into the car and we spent the rest of the night trying to sleep in there.

The next day was still windy but the sun was out, so we spent the morning on the sand.  Sat in the shade of Rob's car (you can drive out on the beach at OBX, it's pretty neat) and played in the sand, had a picnic, and watched Garrett and Rob fish.  We played some bocce ball too, which is really fun on the beach when you have the right sort of sand.
Abby swam a little bit, but the waves were so huge that we didn't let her stay out there for long, and didn't let her go in past her calves.  One wave completely knocked her over and that was the end of that.  She snuggled in a towel on a chair for a while.

Ellie really enjoyed playing in the sand and getting dirty.  We really had to keep an eye on her because she also liked to take off crawling toward the water, full speed.  She's such a fast crawler!

It was a fun trip with friends.  The fishing wasn't very successful, probably because the waves were so big from the storm that had just passed through, but we all had a good time. Someday I would like to visit the Outer Banks again, when it's warmer outside and when we have a bit more time (and more money to do things, like rent a jeep with 4-wheel drive to take onto the beach.).
